Reports attributed to Liberia’s Minister of Education, Etmonia Tarpeh, who abandoned her office at the Ministry’s edifice on Broad Street several months ago, quoted her as saying, she abandoned the ministry because she believes “there are demons at the ministry’s Broad Street edifice.”
Minister Tarpeh reportedly failed to enter her reserved office at the ministry on Broad Street thereby lending credence to the reports attributed to her, that the office is demonic and that she cannot risk her life to sit in a demonic office.
As a result of Minister Tarpeh’s reported protracted absence from the Ministry’s Broad Street office, the sixth floor office of the Minister has been locked-up since February this year also hyping speculation that she has no desire of ever using her Broad Street office.
Madam Tarpeh, who now runs the Education Ministry from one of the 2011 campaign offices of the ruling Unity Party located on 19 Street in Sinkor, vowed that based on her own personal conviction of what a work environment should be, she chose not to operate from the Ministry’s official domicile on Broad Street.
The Education Minister, who is also a personal friend of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, disclosed to a local radio station Truth FM last Friday, June 29 saying, “I will not go there (Education Ministry) because, it does not represent what people see as an education facility.”
The Education Minister recounted her old days at the ministry adding, “it (Education Ministry) used to be a good place before and I worked there before, but now it has deteriorated and unfortunately it might cost us more to renovate that building than to get a new place.”
She confirmed to the radio station that she has moved some segments of the Ministry of Education from its Broad street location, leaving others to operate from the “DEMONIC” Ministry of Education on Broad Street.
In what Analysts described as an attempt to sway public opinion against her and to justify her action, the Minister said where she moved and is attempting to move the entire Ministry, is practically free of charge.
Continuing she said, “So where we are as I said, we are not paying even for the furniture we got there, we acquired all of those and we are looking for a place where all the departments will move to. Right now I have the department of planning, the internal audit and finance to a large extent.”
Whatever justifications the Minister may have, Observers are wondering whether or not President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is aware of one of her cabinet Ministers’ action and if so, did she gave her approval?”
Madam Tarpeh, served as Minister of Youth & Sports during President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s first term. She succeeded Dr. Othello Gongar in the second term after she was confirmed by the Liberian Senate more than three months ago.
Sources at the Ministry revealed that Minister Tarpeh usually sends memos to junior ministers for implementation from her new 19th Street offices.
Communications from junior ministers presently occupying offices at the Broad street offices also channel their communication through their aides to the Minister’s 19th Street office.
Some employees at the Ministry’s Broad Street edifice and vendors say the continual absence of Minister Tarpeh is causing serious embarrassment for them because they have no access to her and seeing her at her 19th Street office causes inconveniences.
“This is strange to us. Dr. Korto and Dr. Gongar were here and none of them ever complained about the building being demonic. Why only this Tarpeh woman?” Asked some employees at the Ministry, who prefer anonymity.

EDUCATION MINISTRY DEMONIC:
What is the code number for this course in the Liberian Ministry of Education’s curriculum planning for Demonism?
How is it taught in school and college? Did the current Liberian Minister of Education take a class or a course in Demonism while in school?
My gosh! Are we still back in 1847 after graduating from college or University? Are we relying on the ALMIGHTY GOD and scientific education we had gone through while in college? Which way Liberia?
P. Allison Tarlue, Sr.
This shows exactly the type of people the President has given the responsibilities to help shape Liberia. Whiles almost all African countries are advancing in terms of education and developmemnt, Liberia is sliding backward at an alarming rate.
Imagine an Education Minister with a ‘PhD’ publicly talking about demons in her office. This woman should be fired without any delay, but Ellen won’t do so because they are friends.
Allowing these sick brains to be heading public offices in Liberia is a disgrace to the nation.
It is unfortunate that Prsident Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf still continues to harbor such semi-illiterate people with Secondary Transmitted Degrees to operate as Ministers in Liberia. So the new building in which Ma’am Tarpeh runs the Ministry in her own way is called what?
